The First gcEVM Testnet Goes Live!

The Garbled-Circuits-enhanced EVM, or gcEVM, is a Layer 1 network developed by Soda Labs (gcEVM white paper v.01 here). The gcEVM is fully compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) but extends its capabilities to support computation on encrypted data, ensuring that users retain ownership of their data at all times. Users can decide whether or not to share their data with a specific dApp, based on how that dApp will use it. No other users or dApps, except those explicitly permitted, can access or learn anything about the user’s data. This makes gcEVM an attractive solution for a wide range of on-chain applications that prioritize privacy and data security.

The Testnet version of the gcEVM was first launched by one of Soda Labs’ partners, COTI Network, on September 17th; announced during the Token2049 conference in Singapore. See the official announcement here.

Soda Labs will soon publicly launch its own Testnet version, meant to offer decentralized confidential computing (DeCC) explorers the ability to experience it first hand and to be able to contribute and propose new updates. Stay tuned.
